Vanity used in quit campaign

The Cancer Council Queensland believes the program could be used in conjunction with other stop-smoking initiatives to get people, especially women, to quit.

"This technology has the potential to be a strong strategy for smoking cessation," said CCQ tobacco programs team leader Karen Donnelly.

"We would be very interested in the outcomes of the research (and) it is computer based and that would appeal to young people," she said.

Smoking was inserted into the program's ageing formula after a survey of young people suggested computer morphing as a way to deter bad habits.

Smoking actually increases the amount of enzymes that break down collagen (the skin component responsible for keeping skin supple and firm), cosmetic physician Dr Van Huynh-Park said.
